I love getting out of the office to visit with churches! This is where the real action happens. It reminds me why I do what I do and keeps me in touch with “the tension” many church leaders are trying to manage: the tension between where they are today and where they feel God is calling them to go.
People know you as the office expert, but you know the role goes much deeper. Success for you is about empowering your leaders with the data and administrative support they need to understand how people are being cared for and how God is moving in your ministry.
Too often our implicit message to regular attenders and even new members is, “Thanks for coming...now go figure it out.” We sit and wait for people to think deeply about how their deepest yearning can fit within our ministry when what people really want is for someone to show enough interest in them that they feel valued, included, and special.
Assimilation is a strange word. The first time I heard it used in a popular setting was on of the recent Star Trek movies. It sounded unusual even hearing it then.
